On May 31, 2019, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) held its first public hearing on cannabidiol (CBD) products and possible regulatory action. The FDA reminds everyone that (no matter what your state says) CBD is not a legal ingredient in dietary supplements and foods. Following hemp legalization in the U.S., the FDA must now figure out how to regulate hemp-derived CBD as a food and beverage ingredient. Today FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb resigned, effective in about a month. This could cause further delays to CBD regulations but it is still possible that the scheduled hearings will take place in April 2019.
